Craigslistlieder was one of the very first pieces of music that I ever attempted to fully notate. I had long intended to make a new revised edition, but, well, life intervened, and here we are, fifteen years later. The changes I’ve made are intended to make the piece somewhat easier to read: superfluous metric modulations and meter changes have been omitted, enharmonic spellings reconsidered, and so on. I remain fond of this piece, which now seems to be a time capsule that transports us to an internet that was, in many ways, more innocent than today’s. My only request is that these songs not be played for laughs. For all of their hijinks and prurience, there is an ache at the bottom of each one; a desire to connect. Play these songs for that truth, and they will, I believe, come to life in three dimensions.
